What is Nicolae House?
Nicholas House provides permanent housing and supportive services for 48 single homeless adults.For many homeless men and women, a sense of home no longer seems possible after years of living on the streets or in shelters. The isolation and rejection they face every day often affects their ability to trust and drains their capacity for hope. The Nicholas House allows these people to fully experience the joy and comfort of having a home of their own.
The Nicholas House will open in winter 2021 to provide private housing for homeless single men and women in a 2-storey building on a serene street bordered by trees and lots of greenery.
Some of our tenants are mentally or physically disabled; others have a history of alcohol abuse, and all are currently living on the street. They will have access to on-site services that help them with socialization, household budgeting ,health and family issues in a safe and stable environment. Each tenant sets professional, educational and personal goals with our social worker at move-in, and follow-up meetings are held regularly to monitor progress and overcome any barriers to stability.
Using a combination of grant streams, donations, our own contributions we will ensure that the building is properly managed, equipped and maintained so that we can provide a safe and welcoming home for our "tenants".
Although we used to say "if you don't have old people, buy your own", in reality, the elderly in this country are abandoned at the age when they need help the most. So is social assistance, which should be provided by local councils. Two laws oblige mayors to support grandparents at home, but neither penalises them. This explains why the number of people receiving assistance is almost 500 times lower than the total number of elderly people.
The problem of old people abandoned by their children or family, who are struggling in dire poverty, is a real one, but there is no data on the number of them. There are NGOs that care for the elderly, either through assistance and home care or homes for the elderly. But their capacity is low and the state's interest is even lower.
By stabilising people through shelter, moving them into permanent housing and implementing assistance programmes to keep them housed, we can not only reduce but eliminate homelessness.
It is a project that requires funds, time and manpower.

We're home after 2 hours on the street looking for homeless people. We are home, we are warm, we are well and warm now..... theirs is not. They're still on the streets, dressed thickly, looking for a shelter that will at least protect them from the wind if they can't get heat.
Our promise to ourselves: we will do our best, we will fight and we will not give up - we don't want any more homeless people in Botosani.Things won't happen today, nor tomorrow but this is our plan for the future - the Nicolae House - its existence is already a huge step, it follows its renovation.
Tomorrow we will find out what the situation is at Sc.3 and what action we can take!

Today marks exactly one month since YOU have been providing hot soups to the homeless. You have bought from restaurants in the city soups worth about 8000 ron. You have been and still are an example of solidarity!
What I saw today:Every evening I am on the street I get to know and learn more about these people. There are many more...today Icunoscut 6 copii …asa imi vine sa-i numesc….de fapt foști copii ce au apartinut statului, crescuți in centre de plasament…..acum aparțin străzii. Ma cuprinde revolta si indignarea dar in acelasi timp si o mare mila si tristețe in timp ce vă povestesc. Ana de 31 de ani si Viorica 27, stau intr-un garaj – stiu doar ca am pornit cu o saltea in mașină sa o duc unei fete , niciodată nu stiu ce voi găsi la destinație dar astăzi nu am fost pregătită pentru asta. In 7 ani am văzut enorm de multe cazuri, am crezut ca voi căpăta „imunitate ” in timp dar nu cred ca există asa ceva. Am gasit un garaj…si atat….salteaua noastră pe jos , asta era o „casa” …….copii sau foști copii ai „statului”.

We get sad every time we find out that people we've known for so many years on the street are leaving us.
Two more of these nobodies - or maybe the state?In curând se va redeschi adăpostul temporar pe perioada iernii – Sc. Nr. 3 – funcționează de ani de zile… noi am renuntat să mai investim in acel loc, fara nici un rezultat, fără nici un sens, fără nici o schimbare. Ani la rând am încercat să organizam acel loc , sa-l transformăm intr-o „casa” provizorie cu conditii umane, decente , igienice pentru acesti oameni…..eforturile noastre au fost inutile, visele noastre imposibile de realizat, ideile noastre au fost respinse ….. intentiile f bune dar doar la nivel declarativ – asa cum ni se transmiteaThe solution we have found is still with us - Casa Nicolae - we are concentrating all our efforts and resources to get it up and running!
